Why You MUST Focus On Wellbeing

So, why was this article interesting to us?

Our Thoughts

Many organisations will take responsibility for ensuring their employee's safety and health. And many countries have laws that set standards for how organisations look after their staff.

But in a small organisation, it may be harder to know what to do here, especially if you're a sole founder just starting a team or with a small team.

This article outlines how certain things will be common factors that impact our wellbeing: 

"Finances are the biggest single source of concern for most people, with 26% of us worried about money on an ongoing basis, ahead of careers (22%), health (18%) and relationships (14%). Financial stress naturally has an adverse impact on an individual’s mental health and therefore on their ability to do their job and perform well. As a business owner, failure to perform well in your job can result in business failure." 

So it should be pretty obvious that one of your roles as the leader of the organisation is to look after the wellbeing of those who work for you, with you, and of course, look after yourself too. That begs the question: how?

This article has a couple of interesting tips and facts. Prioritising employee wellbeing is a part of the advice here, and we want to highlight the importance within this of empowering each individual to get the support they need and to support themselves within these issues they might be experiencing. 

This also rightly outlines that as the leader, you must protect your own mental health too! You can't lead others if you can't lead yourself first. You can't help others if you haven't taken care of your own needs.
